Barratt Homes art competition

Art and design students competed against each other to have their work of art on display at a new Barratt Home development in Sunderland.

Barratt Homes, who are currently building a brand new housing complex in Sunderland named Teal Park, asked Sunderland College’s art department to take part in a competition.

Level 3 art and design students were briefed to create a piece of artwork for the showhome at Teal Park by producing an image of their choice, which had to include the colour Teal.

Jamie Henderson was crowned winner and visited the Teal Park Farm development in Washington to see his framed work on display to the public. Jamie’s winning mixed media piece was created with acrylic paint and watercolour pencils, depicting a floral woman with orange and teal two-toned hair set on a brush-marked teal background. In addition to having his artwork displayed, Jamie also received a prize of £100 voucher to go towards art supplies.

Hollie Marshall, Art and Design Lecturer at Sunderland College, said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity for the students and a great addition for their CV. It gave them the opportunity to work on a live brief for a high profile client and be provided with a real insight of what a career in art and design would entail.”
