Sunderland College’s visual arts students have launched a virtual art exhibition to celebrate their creative talents.
The innovative and immersive gallery displays over 200 pieces of work from across the college’s art & design, photography and graphics courses, some completed by students working from home during lockdown, and explores a range of concepts and subjects.
Replacing the annual end of year show held at Bede Campus’s Arts Academy and the Washington Arts Centre, attendees can explore and interact with virtual areas for each of the college’s graduating artists and designers.
Sheree Rymer, Creative Arts Curriculum Manager, said: “The end of year exhibition is an incredibly important point in our academic year for Visual Arts students and staff.
“The lockdown has cruelly prevented this celebration of our students’ creativity and talent and our staff have been working hard behind the scenes to put on a show that is safe and accessible to everyone everywhere.”
Guests can view the gallery by searching ‘Sunderland College’ at www.artsteps.com or through the Art Steps app, with those who have Virtual Reality glasses able to ‘walk’ around the exhibition.
Creative Arts lecturer, Robin Cowings, added: “Our Art and Design staff are very proud of our students this year for being able to achieve what they have throughout lockdown and still complete and submit such brilliant work.
“This gallery is not a physical exhibition where we can all get together one last time to say farewells and wish our students all the best, but it is a celebration.
“We do indeed wish them the best for all their bright futures.”
