A Sunderland College graphics student’s artwork has been chosen as the official logo for a home design competition supported by TV presenter and architect George Clarke.
Following a brief set by educational charity MOBIE as part of the Sunderland Home Design Challenge launch, with BTEC student Lydia Mason’s leaf-shaped motif being selected as the stand-out among a number of impressive entries.
Lydia’s design has now been seen across the north east and beyond during an online event hosted by former Sunderland College student George where he invited young people from across the region to design sustainable homes of the future. The logo has also featured on MOBIE’s digital channels, as well as Sunderland Home Design Challenge documents and presentations.
Speaking about the experience, Lydia said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the competition as it was very challenging and rewarding. Seeing my winning design being used across MOBIE’s social media channels, website, leaflets and briefs has been surreal.
“Although this may seem a small achievement, it has proven that my designs are industry quality.”
The logo competition helped showcase design students’ talents and professional abilities, and offered them the chance to how their work can be used in a professional context.
Digital Graphics Lecturer, Andrea Errington, added: “Working on a live brief is such a valuable experience for our students and gives them a glimpse of working in the design industry.
“We are delighted Lydia’s wonderful design was chosen and are very proud of all our graphics student’s efforts and hard work.”
The Sunderland Home Design Challenge is part of a three-year programme of events and activities which will culminate in the Sunderland Future Living Expo to take place in the Vaux area of Riverside Sunderland in 2023.
