Student Conference aims to uncover excellence

The annual Student Conference, with the motivating theme of Uncovering Excellence, took place at Sunderland College’s Bede Campus.

100 students from across the College, including Hartlepool Sixth Form College, attended the event. The students were inspired by motivational guest speakers and took part in a series of inspirational activities.

Guest speakers included Adam Corbally from BBC’s The Apprentice, local entrepreneur James Moon who became one of the UK’s youngest pilots at 17 years-old after fracturing his back playing football, and Tobi Okeowo a dynamic motivational speaker who used her life story to inspire and encourage students.
The activities during the event focused on skills, employability, self-reflection and confidence building to help students prepare their pathway to success.

Ruth Magnus, Personal Development Leader, said:

“The event was invaluable and inspiring to our students’ future aspirations, helping them to remove any barriers they may see to achieving success. It had a positive and lasting impact. It was also a great opportunity for students from different areas to interact and learn from each other.”

Anna Hood, a Level 2 Childcare student, said:

“I found Tobi’s motivational talk inspiring and it made me want to do great things.”

Jessica Edmondson, a BTEC Applied Science student, said:

“Listening to how different speakers got to where they are now, from what they came from, has amazed me and I loved hearing about it.”
