Sunderland College student Will McCamley (South Shields Football Club Academy) has recently been given the opportunity to join premiership football club Huddersfield FC on trial.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Will, who is currently studying a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Performance and Excellence at the college. The trial will help Will to gain a great experience at the club and a real opportunity to progress his football career, potentially as a professional.
Carl Jones, Sunderland College Academic Co-ordinator of the Football Development Centre said:
“Will has been an exemplary student athlete since the start of the 2 year South Shields Football Club Academy Programme. He has achieved D*D* in the first year of his Level 3 BTEC Sport (Performance and Excellence) programme through his dedication to succeed, this has been evidenced through his approach and diligence to hard work.”
Once the trial is over, Huddersfield FC will then make a decision as to whether he will be selected. Although this will be quite a daunting experience, the student athlete is taking it all in his stride. He added:
“I am looking forward to an exciting experience that could potentially develop my career. The FA Youth Cup competition and my everyday involvement with Lee Picton and Graham Fenton has provided me with a fantastic platform for my own football development.”
Lee Picton Manager of South Shields Football Club (1st team and Academy) went on to say:
“We are delighted with the opportunity that Will has been provided, this has been justified by his recent performances in the FA Youth Cup. Will has made significant strides as a player from the start of the 2 year South Shields Football Club Academy Programme. Everyone at the football club would like to wish him all the best for this experience.”
