A-Level Biology students recently visited the University of Sunderland to attend a work discovery Healthcare Science event.
The event was hosted by City Hospitals Sunderland and South Tyneside Foundation Trusts. The students had the opportunity to visit and participate in interactive demonstrations on Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Audiology and Neurophysiology to gain an insight into what it means to work in these areas of healthcare.
Taking part in this event meant that the students were able to gain a broader knowledge of careers within the NHS and had the opportunity to speak to specialists to develop a wider understanding of their professions.
Gemma Willis, Sunderland College Lecturer in Biology said:
“The Healthcare Science Event was an excellent opportunity for our learners to meet NHS professionals and to find out more about the amazing and rewarding careers available within the healthcare sector to allow them to make more informed choices about university study and their future careers.”
Harry Reed and Abby Taylor, A-Level Biology students said:
“The cardiology workshop was really fun and gave me an insight into a variety of career paths available.”
“The day was very informative about careers in health sciences and how to access them.”
