Travel and Tourism students have recently participated in a familiarisation trip to Manchester, investigating the attractions, experiencing the culture and attending the Destinations Show.
The HND International Travel and Tourism Management Students had the chance to learn more about Manchester, familiarisation trips are often organised by tourist boards for travel agents and tour operators so they can learn more about a destination.
The students then spent time at the Destinations Show at Event City which had a variety of tour operator, travel agent, tourist board stalls offering information, guidance and offers. They also attended a seminar on the hot destinations for 2019/20 – delivered by the Product Manager for Titan Travel.
Kelly Mounsey, Sunderland College Travel and Tourism Lecturer said:
“This visit is always beneficial to the students, they get to know each other as a group and also experience a taste of industry standard staff development whilst learning about a new destination.”
The students will use this experience and the information they gained in their Tour Operations unit, some of the hours they spent in Manchester will also count toward their work experience portfolio.
