Sunderland College students’ talent and hard work has been recognised by the NextGen Academy in their annual showcase.

The NextGen Class of 2020 gives graduating students the opportunity to show off their impressive portfolios they have developed over the past two years studying animation, games design and visual effects courses at colleges throughout the country.

Kay Lindsay, Concept Artist:

“I have been studying concept art on the NextGen course. I find character and background design to be key aspects to games/animation because they are a great way to tell a story and create a scene.

“My future career goals would be to work on designs for well-known companies for games or animations projects. In my spare time I enjoy drawing my own characters for games that I often play with my friends.”

Matt Hall, NextGen lecturer: “Kay is a very talented artist with an fantastic creative mindset. Work always show originality, consideration and development. Her creative vision sets the projects she works on far apart from others and are a joy to explore. We wish her all the best!”

Matthew Nixon, 3D Environmental Artist:

“My name is Matthew Nixon. I’m an 18-year-old 3D artist who specialises in environment art. My favourite kind of environment to make is a heavily Japanese themed one, however I greatly enjoy making just about anything if it allows me to express my creativity!

“This past summer I finished my 2 years on the NextGen course at Sunderland College, and I’ll be moving on to study Computer Games Art at Teesside University. I’m hoping I can enter the 3D art industry, as I am very passionate about creating beautiful environments.”

Matt Hall: “Matthew is talented student who has harvested the skills and experience of his lecturers and industry professionals to help grow his own skill set. He really cares about the projects he works on and focuses on everything he can to ensure they succeed. As a result, his work has shown strong development over the years as well as clear passion and realisation of what he wants to achieve.”
