Sunderland College student Josh, has recently travelled to Italy to take part in the WAKO Golden Glove, picking up 3rd place in the continuous fighting category!
12 countries across a variety of continents were selected to compete in the international tournament, following qualification in 3 categories (points fighting, continuous, kick light). Josh finished 3rd out of 12 competing in this category, which has enabled him to secure sponsorship with Top Ten along with showcasing his skill.
Carl Jones, Sunderland College TASS Dual Career Academic Co-ordinator said:
“Josh is an excellent TASS student-athlete representing Sunderland College. He is currently studying the Level 3 BTEC in Sport & Exercise Sciences and is performing well on his main study programme. Since the start of the academic year, Josh has developed his skills in aligning his studies with his talented athletic achievements. It is anticipated that Josh will achieve DD on his main programme diploma and continue to perform to the highest possible standard whilst engaging on his TASS dual career programme.”
Josh Hastings, Level 3 BTEC student in Sport & Exercise Sciences added:
“Having come back with a bronze medal from the WAKO Golden Glove, I have been overwhelmed with the success I achieved. I am very proud of my own efforts and performance level from this outstanding experience. The bar was set to an excellent standard with highly talented athletes taking in the competition.
I was dedicated to my routine in the months prior to the competition in order to best prepare for what I knew lay ahead, this included 6am M.M.A (mixed martial arts) drills and having 3 training sessions a day – all the hard work has certainly paid off! I would like to thank my coaches Dave Parkinson and Andy Trewick who have helped me reach this level of success. Hopefully I will grab a podium finish at the WAKO British (in Nottingham) and show international based clubs what local clubs can achieve!”
