Animation, Games Design and VFX students recently had the opportunity to visit the Zerolight studios on the Quayside in Newcastle, have a tour of the facilities in their studios and experience demonstrations.
The students had the chance to meet Kelly Logan, who is a recent Sunderland College graduate from the NextGen course. The talk was focused around how the college course teaches students work-ready skills so they can leave and go on to secure a job in the industry easily with the knowledge and talent they have developed.
The students were able to demo a range of VR, AR and MR technology by their developers. The visit gave them all an insight into the tech industry, a chance to network with developers and gain experience of being in an industry environment.
Matt Hall, Sunderland College Lecturer in Games, Animation & VFX said:
“This experience was very valuable to the students. It’s really useful for students to get inside a studio and see how it operates and we are very thankful to Zerolight for enabling this to happen! It was amazing to see our 2018 graduate Kelly Logan in her new role and talk to students about what she did to secure her position at Zerolight. Our students were fully engaged from start to finish, it was great to see them get so much out of this experience!”
Miles Kearvell, first year student in Games, Animation and VFX student added:
“Zerolight has some really interesting technology that I hadn’t considered games art and programming skills could be used for – I’d love to learn more about what they do there! The team and environment were all really lovely and this is definitely a place I would like to work in the future!”
Ryan Trotter, second year student in Games, Animation and VFX student added: I was really impressed by the whole experience today at Zerolight! I really liked the results the studio achieves using Unity and how far they can push their technology with it. It was fantastic to see the range of technology they are using and the mix of all different roles and specialisms that work on it.
NextGen students at Sunderland College recently presented a range of creative projects and products to industry experts at a special event.
