Sunderland College Art & Design students have recently been involved in transforming a Barnardo’s party room into a Christmas Grotto.
The level 2 and HND arts and design students were tasked to make a set of A3 belt buckles for a traditional Santa themed Xmas party room at Barnardo’s Fostering and Adoption centre. The students then displayed the belt buckles along with other Christmas themed props at the centre.
The main outcome was a large room decorated with props using the theme ‘traditional Christmas’ as starting point. The students helped to set up an area for Santa, which included a backdrop of a traditional fireplace, an ‘elfie selfie’ area and a large wall covered in red which included the gold belt buckles made by level 2 students.
All students worked with Barnardo’s staff to bring to life their vision working extremely hard to make the area as festive as possible. The event also gave HND students a chance to help mentor the younger students.
Paul Taylor Sunderland College Art & Design Technician said:
“The Barnardo’s project was very successful – each student was very creative and they all worked well together in groups, transforming a large room into a colourful Christmas grotto in the space of just a few hours. The staff at Barnardo’s were delighted with the result.”
