Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer. These courses are fully funded for learners*.

The Skills Bootcamps are being delivered in partnership with employers, further education training providers and local government. The training and support available is aligned with local and national demand for skills, ensuring that people have a direct line of sight to a job and support people to get skills for life.

If you're aged 19+ and currently unemployed, self-employed, looking to explore a new industry or progress in your current sector, a Skills Bootcamp could be your next step to a better job.

These FREE* flexible courses allow you to gain the skills employers are looking for. You will also be guaranteed a job interview at the end of the course.

The Skills Bootcamps are designed to be flexible, so you can fit learning around your family or other commitments. They will be a mix of classroom-based and online learning, and on-the-job training.
Working alongside partners including Education Partnership North East, Northumberland College, Nissan UK, Unipres UK and Newcastle College, we offer the below courses.

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for individuals of any educational level who are currently unemployed.

What will the Skills Bootcamp cover? 

This Skills Bootcamp will provide you with the vital skills needed to start a career within manufacturing. The programme provides an interactive experience, explaining all of the manufacturing philosophies, with a particular focus around continuous improvement and safely working on electric vehicles.

The Skills Bootcamp will also deliver a 2 day practical skills course with a focus on the importance of understanding and following standard operations.

The Skills Bootcamp will start on 3rd July 2023 and will lasts for 2 weeks (78 hours in total).

Electric Vehicle Component Manufacture (Unipres UK)

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp offers a routeway to employment with Unipres (Electric Vehicle Component Manufacturing).

What will the Skills Bootcamp cover?

The Skills Bootcamp will provide participants with the following knowledge and skills, in preparation for a guaranteed interview at the end of the course with Unipres, providing a seamless progression route from the programme to a positive progression outcome: 

  • Environmental awareness - carbon literacy  
  • Unipres' long-term vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050
  • Electric vehicle legislation
  • Workshop and operations management
  • Practical hand skills

Woodland Management and Forestry Skills (Northumberland College)

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for individuals who wish to obtain industry approved mandatory qualifications required in order to operate in the woodland management and forestry sector.

What will the Bootcamp cover?

The Skills Bootcamp will support recruitment into the forestry sector and other related land-based sectors covering:

  • Tree planting.
  • Tree health
  • Tree identification
  • Silver culture
  • Health and safety
  • Brushcutters and trimmers
  • Tractor operations
  • Basic chainsaw skills
  • First aid training

How long is the course?

The Skills Bootcamp will start on 25th August 2023 and will be delivered across 70 hours.

Green Skills Automotive Supply Chain (Sunderland College)

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for individuals looking to obtain an introduction to the automotive sector and gain additional knowledge about the manufacture of electric/hybrid vehicles and batteries in the North East.

What will the Skills Bootcamp cover?

The Skills Bootcamp will be delivered by Education Partnership North East and supported by the North East Automotive Alliance. The two week programme will cover:

  • Introduction to Electric Vehicle standards
  • Environmental awareness and carbon literacy
  • Introduction to the automotive sector and the manufacture of electric/hybrid vehicles and batteries in the North East
  • Awareness of legislation relevant to the production of electric vehicles
  • Knowledge of basic electric vehicle components and their purpose
  • Safe working practices relevant to electric vehicles and production lines
  • Workshop organisation, including teamwork, 'lean' thinking and line speed calculations
  • Working safely in an operational environment
  • Workshop and operations management
  • Production hand skills and techniques

How long will the course last?

The Skills Bootcamp will run for 2 weeks (64 hours in total).

Electrical Vehicle Diagnostic and Maintenance (Newcastle College)

Who is the Skills Bootcamp for?

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for employed individuals looking to upskill and unemployed individuals looking to move into the sector to support filling the skills gap.

What will the Skills Bootcamp cover?

You will develop the core skills needed to fill the current skills gap in electric vehicle diagnostics and maintenance.

Courses have been designed to give an understanding of fully electric and hybrid vehicles and will also deliver identification of all the main components and key safety aspects when working with high voltage systems, including advanced knowledge of carrying out safety shutdown procedures

How long will the course last?

The Skills Bootcamp will start on 25th of September and will last for 10 weeks (60 hours in total).

Are you an employer?

If you wish to access a boot camp to train your own existing employees as part of staff professional training. Employers can co-fund the training with a cash contribution of 30% or more (reducing to 10% or more for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises).
