Looking to change career, Beverley started her apprenticeship as an adult learner. She is now a Sales Order Processor at Roundel Manufacturing, one of the premium suppliers to the UK’s house builders of bespoke furniture.

Receiving customer kitchen orders and adding the choices to the relevant job in a SOP programme.
I add colour choices and upgrades so that all the required parts will be ordered and manufactured to complete the kitchen.
I enjoy the challenge of working out new upgrades and layouts, and discovering more about the whole manufacturing and fitting of kitchens.

I wanted to change career, an apprenticeship offered the chance to gain experience in a new role and industry and the possibility of permanent employment.
I attending college for IT which was enjoyable. The whole experience has helped build my confidence and made me realise what I can achieve with determination.
The atmosphere was relaxed, the class size was small so help was always available.
I think apprenticeships are an excellent way to gain experience and qualifications so yes I would recommend.
Securing an apprenticeship as a mature person can be difficult.
I am aware the funding can differ depending on age and many companies will not even consider a mature learner and this can damage confidence.
I think this needs to be looked into and older people need to be encouraged that apprenticeships can be for them.
Maths and English are everywhere! They are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and to progress to your dream career. A GCSE Maths and English qualification could be the difference between being accepted onto a university course or getting a job promotion.
