Manchester City Football Club Sport Science Tour

Sunderland sport students have had the opportunity to visit Manchester City Football Club to tour their state of the art facilities within the Etihad Stadium and gain further knowledge on how elite sportspeople prepare professionally.

The level 3 BTEC Sport, Development, Coaching and Fitness students were able to tour the changing rooms, warm up and performance analysis areas, which gave them further insight into how professionals train and prepare themselves ahead of playing. They also took part in learning about sport nutrition, training schedules and match day preparation. The topics covered on the visit, helped students gain a real life insight into topics which are covered on their BTEC course.

Graham Hill, Sunderland College Lecturer in Sport said:

“Visiting Manchester City Football Club and being able to have a behind the scenes tour of the state of the art facilities was a great experience for our students. It allowed them to see the inner workings of an elite sporting organisation, viewing many aspects of sport science including nutrition, fitness training, strength and conditioning and performance analysis. The knowledge and experience gained will inspire our learners to move onto higher education and gain the skills and qualifications needed to potentially gain employment in similar organisations.”

“I really enjoyed the trip to Manchester Football Club. It allowed me to see the different technology and facilities available to elite athletes and gain further knowledge of the industry so I can apply this to assessments in the future.”
