Cabin Crew Water Survival

Cabin Crew students recently took part a water survival session at Hetton Lyons Country Park.

The students participated in water survival techniques which is part of the City & Guilds Cabin Crew course they are studying. They learnt essential skills that would be used in a real life ditching (crash landing on water).

This was part of the criteria needed to achieve the qualification, all students participated and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

The session was in collaboration with training provider Springboard, who created a bespoke programme to incorporate into the course. The students were able to cover water survival techniques, rescue techniques, treading water, PPE used on an aeroplane and the survival circle and also used rescue crafts for training.

Rachel Dinning, Sunderland College Lecturer in Travel and Tourism said:

“I am really proud of the mature outlook each student had on the event. Everyone fully participated and enjoyed the activities. It was great to see everyone working as a team and developing the skills they will need to work in this industry.”

Chloe Jackson, City & Guilds Certificate in Cabin Crew student added:

“I have really enjoyed today – it was amazing to learn some new skills which will benefit me in the future!”
