Travel and tourism students experienced a residential visit to one of the most popular resorts in Spain to discover first-hand how resorts are managed and how it is a sustainable destination.
Second year HND Travel and Tourism Management students flew from Newcastle to Alicante and stayed in Benidorm for a seven day residential trip.
During their week abroad, the students gained an insight into how tour operator TUI manages a resort, the health and safety issues in resort for natural disasters and terrorism, and how Benidorm is a sustainable destination.
Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in the Spanish culture by experiencing the Fallas Festival, one of the only fiestas in the world with world heritage status, they also enjoyed a tapas meal, explored the Old Town, visited Terra Natura theme park and the impressive Guadalest and Algar waterfalls, and took a boat trip.
Kelly Mounsey, Travel and Tourism Lecturer at Sunderland College, said:
“This fantastic experience was an excellent opportunity for students to discover Benidorm as a tourist destination and how tour operators manage all the guests in resort.”
Bethany Porter, HND Travel and Tourism Management student, said:
“I really enjoyed this visit as we were able to learn all about Benidorm and how it appeals to lots of different customers. I really enjoyed speaking Spanish and trying tapas!”
