Travel and Tourism Management students visit Benidorm

The students took part in educational residential visit to Benidorm, to investigate how the resort is managed by tour operators and the cities sustainability.

They were given the opportunity with a tour operator to find out how they manage such a large resort, what their staff do and how they train their staff to look after so many customers. They also gave details as to how they deal with crisis management and the procedures they must follow when issues arise. The students also met with the tourist information centre to learn about Benidorm as a sustainable destination and the natural park surrounding the resort.

Being able to observe the ‘Fallas Fiesta’, one of the few festivals in the world which has world heritage status was also included in the residential, something the students wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to see. With Benidorm being such a varied destination offering a wide range of activities for all types of customers, the students were able to see first-hand how a complex resort operates whilst also enjoying a bus tour and boat trip of the resort.

The students will use all this information to complete a unit investigating Resort Management and sustainable tourism. They will also be able to use the information when they start their degree course in September.

“This visit is one of the highlights for our HND students and myself, showing the students how varied the culture is in Benidorm and their views on the resort changing whilst there is great to see, it’s also lovely to be able to teach classes around a pool or on a beach.”
