The Director General for Higher Education and Further Education visited City Campus to discover more about the outstanding learning opportunities Sunderland College is creating for young people and adults across the region.
Paul Kett, who is leading figure in the Department for Education’s (DfE) leadership team, was welcomed by Chief Executive Ellen Thinnesen and Chair of Governors Rob Lawson who spoke about how a future ready vision and strategic plan has positioned the group as an engaged and influential sector leader with a strong reputation and growing partnerships.

Sunderland College is embarking on a multi-million-pound redevelopment programme to transform a 1920s building at its Bede Campus into an immersive learning environment that will deliver the workers of tomorrow through new T Level qualifications.
Backed by a successful £3 million T Level Capital Fund application, the campus’ Bede Building is being transformed into a world-class, cutting-edge immersive learning environment that will provide a backdrop for the provision of prestigious T Levels.
Launched last year by the Department for Education to nurture the talent of tomorrow, T Levels combine classroom and workplace learning, in the process affording students qualifications that are equivalent to three A-Levels.
Alongside partners in the North East, we have recently launched brand new Skills Bootcamps in Digital including courses in data analysis, digital marketing and cyber security.
They are specifically designed to offer individuals employment-focused skills to help increase their chances of getting a job in the digital sector. Anyone who successfully completes a course is also guaranteed an interview with a local employer.
