A Sunderland College student who lost her mother to cancer organised a Fun Day to raise vital funds for MacMillan’s Legendary February campaign.
Amy Neal, who is studying Level 1 Beauty Therapy, led the event with support from the College’s Youth Work Team and a host of volunteers from City Campus with a tombola, cake sale, photo booth and sporting competition among the activities.
The Fun Day gave Amy the opportunity to develop her event communication and organisational skills with MacMillan’s fundraising team who helped develop a fundraising plan and calendar for the rest of the year.
Youth Worker, Abigail Cruickshanks, said:
“Amy has done an amazing job, raising money and awareness for a cause close to her heart. The Fun Day helped Amy and other students to build on their skills and knowledge as will as giving them practical experience within their specialism.”
Students from Sunderland College and Northumberland College recently went head-to-head in an inter-college barbering competition.
