More than 60 Scouts from across Wearside visited Sunderland College’s Bede Campus for a special ‘Takeover’ event recently.
Throughout the evening, the young people from local Scouts groups took part in workshops including a Science Spectacular, computer games design, computing and forensics led by the college’s curriculum staff.
The aim of the Takeovers was to help Scouts work towards their Digital Maker, Teamwork Challenge and Scientist Activity Badges through a carousel of practical and classroom-based activities.
Alan Palmer, Scout Leader at 25th Sunderland Scouts, added: “Everyone had a brilliant night. Thank you to all of the staff – we can’t wait to do it again.”
Following the success of the Sunderland Takeover, similar events will be held for Scouts and Cubs groups from Cleveland and Northumberland.
Gemma Willis, Biology Lecturer at Sunderland College, said: “This is one of the best events I have supported in the college in the past few years. The Scouts were engaged, enthusiastic and clearly interested in the sessions.”
