The Men’s Football Development Centre team at Sunderland College is celebrating the end of another successful season by becoming the North East Colleges Premier Cup champions.
Sunderland faced Hartlepool Sixth Form College at Gateshead International Stadium in a thrilling cup final, and secured victory with a 3-0 win.
Sunderland College dominated the first half with some impressive passing phases through a very good Hartlepool Sixth Form College side. The second half saw Sunderland College create the best chances, with the Hartlepool Sixth Form goalkeeper saving some excellent goals. It was a well contested match, with Sunderland College ending up worthy winners and showcasing the talent and quality of the North East Colleges League.
The final brings an end to another impressive season for the Improtech Elite Sunderland College squad, which includes reaching the National Cup semi-final and England representation for centre half Fraser Collings.

“This was an excellent performance and result for our Improtech Elite Football Development Centre, showcasing the quality of our provision at Sunderland College.”
Re-living the glory, Level 3 Sport student Tom Hunter who captained the winning side, said:
“This was a great team performance with some well taken goals. It is always nice to collect a trophy at the end of the year to reward our efforts throughout the season.”
Martin Scott, Director of Improtech Elite Soccer and UEFA Pro License Coach, said:
“The players thoroughly deserved their cup final success. This is a reflection of their hard work and efforts throughout the season. We look forward to continue to build on the partnership between Sunderland College and Improtech Elite Soccer.”
The Men’s Football Development Centre, in partnership with Improtech Elite Soccer, allows students to combine their academic studies with professional training from expert coaches. The college also has a Women’s Football Development Centre.
