Michelmersh donates thousands of bricks to college

Students at Sunderland College will sharpen up their bricklaying skills thanks to a donation from one of Britain’s leading brick specialists.

Earlier this month the college took delivery of over 9,000 bricks (totalling more than £10,000) from Michelmersh as part of the firm’s Pledge 100 initiative to support the next generation of bricklayers and their education with high quality, premium materials, resources and tools.

The donation will help dozens of students and apprentices develop techniques for laying foundations, constructing walls and other built structures in the college’s industry standard workshops at City Campus.

Construction and Building Services Lecturer, Jimmy Stobbart, said: “We can’t thank Michelmersh enough for this kind donation. It will make a massive difference to all of our bricklaying students over the next 12 months.”

Michelmersh demonstrates its commitment to investing in young people aspiring to work within the construction industry by supplying free products, resources, CPD presentations, factory visits and seminars to various colleges around the UK.

In 2019, the firm donated a total of 90,000 bricks – a total it hopes to smash by the end of this year to positively affect the industry education of young bricklayers.
