Student-athlete Caitlin Cambrook won gold and two silver medals at the Swim Wales Winter Championships which took place prior to the government restrictions on sporting events.
Caitlin smashed her personal best 50m butterfly at the annual gala in Swansea, taking the national title with a time of 28.24 seconds.
The City of Sunderland ASC swimmer also reached the finals of another four events, winning silver in the 100m freestyle (57.83 seconds) and 50m backstroke (29.40 seconds).
Caitlin, who is studying Sport and Exercise Sciences and is part of the college’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) ran by Sunderland College, said: “The TASS programme at Sunderland College has helped in supporting me to achieve what I have and allowing the flexibility of learning.
“I wouldn’t have been able to get where I am without my swim coach who helps me improve my power and technique in the water as well as the Martin Nugent Elite Performance Centre at Bede Campus.”
Earlier this year, Caitlin competed at the McCullagh International Meet in Ireland, where she finished second in the 50m fly B final while learning from some of world’s best swimmers including Olympic champion and world record holder Adam Peaty MBE.

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, education institutions and national governing bodies of sport, working together to bring the best out of our country’s most exciting young talent.
TASS helps athletes in education – aged 16-plus – to get the very best from their sporting and academic careers without having to choose between the two.
