Games Design students win at the British Esports Association finals

Students had great success at the British Esports Championships pilot for further education colleges, winning in both League of Legends and Overwatch.

The British Exports association was established in 2011 to help promote esports in the UK, increase the level of awareness, improve standards and inspire future talent. The teams of students competed against a number of colleges in the championships from up and down the country. They worked extremely well together to overcome all challengers, ultimately winning the finals to become season 1 champions in a very tough competition.

The championships gave the students a chance to embrace esports, and develop their team work and communication skills. Despite many challenges along the way, team captains Josh Bainbridge and Robert Catley stayed resilient and lead their teams to victory.

Ben Marriott, Sunderland College Lecturer in Next Gen Games, Animation and VFX said:

“I am insanely proud of both teams, they both did amazingly and I never had any doubts that they wouldn’t reach the final. They all have worked so hard to get where they are and they deserve all the credit for these victories. It was an incredible experience for all and we are already looking forward to season 2 and the Grand Championship at Insomnia.”
