Former Sports Massage Students Visit College to give informative talk

Preparing you to progress

Leanne and Geoff, previous students of the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy course visited the college to give a talk to the current students studying sports massage.

The talk gave an insight into the world of work of a sports massage therapist, starting their own businesses and the everyday tasks they would have to undertake in order to be a successful massage therapist. Leanne and Geoff also advised the students on the importance of good referral networks, best ways to take bookings and track income, getting correct insurances, methods of advertising, professional and clinical standards and data protection.

Paul Brown, Sport Massage Lecturer at Sunderland College said:

“It was great to catch up with Leanne and Geoff and fantastic to see how far they have both progressed in their careers, developing their current business and starting their own business. The students and I really appreciated them giving up their time to come in and speak to us and providing an excellent insight into the world of work as a sports massage therapist. Everything from the importance of detailed client assessments, getting the correct insurances, how to advertise yourself online to what expenses can be offset against income! The tips and recommendations that they both gave were excellent and inspired our current students who have aspirations of working as a sports massage therapist or even starting their own business at some point in the future.”

Ian Elliot, Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy student added:

“Last night’s lecture was very informative, honest and helpful from real life success stories working in the industry. The enthusiasm and passion of Geoff and Leanne was evident throughout the talk and this has really helped to confirm I’m on the right course for the career I want to progress onto.”

Leanne Maitland, Massage and Beauty Therapist continued:

“It was an absolute honour to be asked to attend and speak to this year’s current Level 3 Sports Massage students. It was lovely to be able to share best practises, experience and answer any questions the students had in terms of launching their own business.”
