What’s it all about?

The programme of study offers learners an insight into the engineering sector with a mix of classroom and workshop sessions in the college ccampus.

The programme is taught at our City campus, which incorporates industry standard equipment and classrooms.

Teaching is carried out by industry experienced staff members and the assessments take the form of written assignments, practical experiments and research activities.

Mathematics and English will be developed during the programme, with the focus on engineering related information. Due to the entry requirements, learners will be expected to have the requisite level of Mathematics and English as stated in the programme entry requirements.

Learners will be offered the opportunity to attend either a period of work experience or work placement in relation to the programme of study. Placements are subject to learners making expected progress in class and meeting assessments deadlines as set in the assessment schedule.

The college continues to develop and maintain strong industry links with local employers and businesses. Employers include AESC, Marelli, Grundfos, Haskel, Parker Hanafin, Tor Coatings and ZF.

This is a full-time study programme with learners typically attending the college three days per week.

The aim of this study programme is to offer learners the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge around the engineering industry, as well as the skills required to pursue a career in this sector.

Learners will develop employability skills alongside the technical knowledge associated with the respective units of assessment.

- Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems

- Computer-aided Drafting in Engineering
- Industrial Robot Technology

BTEC Pearson

Maximum 16 credits per unit

As part of the study programme learners will also study areas such as employability skills in relation to engineering employers and tutorial sessions with a personal development tutor to discuss progress and target setting.

What’s next?

Upon successful completion of this programme, learners can progress in a number of ways, including progression to Higher Education (such as a HND course) and/or progressing to university, or progressing into an apprenticeship programme, subject to securing employment with a confirmed employer.
