What’s it all about?

If you want to challenge the system and challenge politicians and debate meaningful issues, then this course is for you. Whether you want to get into politics, become a journalist or enter law.

You will need 5 GCSE's at grades 5-9, including English Language

16-18 FREE You will need to provide your own stationery and you will be given the opportunity to take part in trips and visits.

You will be taught using active and collaborative learning approaches and your learning will be assessed via written assessments in accordance with AQA criteria. You will also be expected to keep up with current affairs by reading newspapers, watching and listening to the news, with the view that you will use this knowledge in your assessed work.

You will cover three examined modules, UK Government and Politics, UK/US comparative Government and Politics and Ideologies. There is a synoptic theme throughout the A-Level, with the expectation that theory and knowledge can be applied to more than one examined module. The last module, ideologies, covers Conservatism, Liberalism, Socialism and Nationalism. This will allow you to gain a wider understanding of how ideas culminate into prolonged beliefs which help to shape and develop Government and Politics around the world.

English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm. Days and times of study are subject to change, timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

What’s next?

A-Level Government and Politics will help you gain access to university to study Social Sciences, including Politics and Sociology, Law, Medicine, History, English and many others. Students often delve into international relations and go on to a range of careers such as Journalism, Civil Service, Accountancy and much more.
